Let the holidays begin!

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Of course the candy had something to do with that when I was younger, and the parties at school, but nowadays it's more about coming up with a great costume and enjoying everyone else's at parties. I haven't always been the most inventive with costumes. Let's take it back a few years...

My mom sent me a couple of pictures of my brother and I in our Halloween costumes as kids. I'm not sure why they're in black and white... we definitely had color film when I was a kid... regardless, here we are, in front of the fireplace in our costumes. Mike was a vampire. I was a cat. Quite obvious, no? I mean what cat do you know that doesn't wear a bow tie with a black leotard and tights with bright orange pumpkins all over? (That lasted through multiple Halloween costumes by the way.) Although not pictured here, I definitely remember wearing some white velcro high tops. Probably LA Gear. I only wish it were in color so you could see that the carpet we're standing on was a classy shade of forest green.

Here we are again, sometime around the same year as the photo above, because there are those pumpkin tights again, and possibly the same high tops... And guess what! I was a pumpkin that year! So maybe a little more fitting for this costume. I'm not quite sure what's going on with the pumkin's expression or what's on my head, or what I'm holding... a ghost of some sort? All that really matters is the expression on pirate Mike's face. Priceless.

So I've skipped a few years, but I wanted to actually show you a costume that I'm proud of! This Halloween 2009. Sean went as Wall-E, and I went as his robot sidekick Eve. These costumes were handmade from head to toe, (well, minus Sean's belt and underclothes and our shoes) and we're so proud of them that they're still in our basement somewhere gathering dust :) This year is going to be a little bit different, but you'll have to stay tuned to find out what we're going to be. We're hosting our first Halloween party this evening, complete with a smoking cauldron, creepy music and candy corn jello shots. Happy Friday, and Happy Halloween!
